DV Troubleshooting - Starting and Stopping DV

A Virtual Private Server may be started up, restarted, and shut down like an ordinary computer. The Virtuozzo Power Panel page that provides access to these functions is available on clicking the Start/Stop DV link on the Virtuozzo Power Panel menu.

Depending on the DV state, only those operations are accessible that comply with its current state. For example, a running DV cannot be started for obvious reasons, and so on. The following DV states can be characterized as stable:
Status Description
Running The DV is running; therefore, it may only be restarted or stopped.
Down The DV is stopped; therefore, it may only be started.
Repairing The DV is being repaired. You cannot perform any action on the DV until you press the Finish Repair button.

Besides these states, during DV operations a DV may be in one of the transitional states: mounting, starting, stopping, etc. When in a transitional state, you cannot perform any action on the DV until the operation is finished. Press the Start DV, Stop DV, or Restart DV button to perform the corresponding action. On pressing one of these buttons, this action is logged.

If you are managing a DV residing on the Hardware Node with the Linux operating system installed and wish to stop your DV, bear in mind that there is a two-minute timeout for the DV shutdown scripts to be executed. If the DV is not stopped in two minutes, the system forcibly kills all the processes in the Virtual Private Server. The Virtual Private Server will be stopped in any case, even if it is seriously damaged. To avoid waiting for two minutes if you are operating a Virtual Private Server that is known to be corrupt, you may use the Fast Stop DV button. The option is available only for a Service DV user (for example, vzagent0).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Fast Stop DV is comparable to shutting your computer off without properly shutting it down. When not properly shutting down your DV, it may cause errors to occur and file corruption. ONLY use the Fast Stop DV option when absolutely necessary. This should only be necessary when your DV is unaccessible and the Restart and Stop button fails to respond, then Fast Stop DV should be used.
